Kitchen Updates

I haven’t really had a hard and fast plan for the kitchen yet.  I was basically just using things I already had and threw them together.  Not really liking what was going on….I found a really cute atomic print fabric on Ebay and decided that I wanted to change out my curtain in there and add some different colors.

Then I found a new kitchen rug in a bright cheery yellow to add some light in there.  I love and have so much turquoise color already, so I am going to change it up to the turquoise/aquamarine color, pink and yellow.  I think it will be much more fun and bright!

Brixton’s new “big boy” bed

We decided to get Brixton a “big boy” bed, so we can try to slowly get him out of ours!  We wanted to get a twin, so it can also double as a guest bed too.  We went with the Ikea Hemnes daybed.

The neat thing is it actually opens out to make a queen size bed for guests who need more room or couples.  Plus it has three deep storage drawers too!

I got personalized pillows from West Elm.  They are so cute! His duvet is going to be from West Elm too, it is on back order right now.

Laundry Art

Just made this “Keep Calm” sign for the laundry room….think I am going to get a banner on Etsy like below, but say LAUNDRY.

Found this inspiration laundry room pic on Pinterest and decided to give it a go! Our laundry room is  small & similar to this one, so should work well.

Found a cheap chandelier at Ikea and it was a go!

Went and got the paint and went at it! Thanks, Regan!  I even did a spray silver glitter on the ceiling, but it is very subtle.  May do a  second coat. I wanted the ceiling to “sparkle” a little :)

It turned out really cool. I want to get cabinets like the ones in the inspiration picture also to hide all the detergents later down the road.
Trying to find a nice laundry picture of some sort too for above the shelf area & a pretty rug. It’s coming….

I just scored a sputnik chandelier lamp I have been wanting forever on Craigslist super cheap today!

We went to Z Gallerie last Monday when they were having a big 30% off sale and I was so tempted to get one! It was a bit too much and I’m so glad I didn’t! It looks identical, if not from there.

Then after talking to the guy realized he just sold his house 4 doors down from us!!! I knew they had a cool retro screen door that was still at the old house that I had been eyeing and he ended up selling that to me too! Those go for $250 on Hiphaven.com, so I got an amazing score again. It will look so cool on our back door.  I love having the natural air in the mornings and evenings when it is not so hot.

Planting in the garden

Just finished planting two types of tomato plants, bell peppers, and of course gotta get the hot peppers going here in Texas! I did Serrano, jalapeño, and Habanero.

This is pretty much my first time gardening- so we’ll see how the “crop” goes.

I know last year was so incredibly hot, that most plants didn’t survive outside- but we are hoping we don’t have the same thing going on this summer!!

New headboard!

27 Feb

Just got done adding fabric to our new headboard.  I used the fabric we had bought last year when we moved to San Francisco.  I had a ton of it because we had so many windows in our bedroom there, so this was the perfect solution for them!  I also have enough to make the curtains and some throw pillows.

The great part is, I didn’t have to spend much, and I think it looks fantastic!

Next to paint the room white!  It will look so nice and bright in there pretty soon :)

 

RANDOM KITCHEN PIX

Just taking some pictures of what’s going on in the kitchen.  I still haven’t done curtains in there yet.  Still looking for something I like.  I’m going in the red & aqua colors because I love that color combo right now (thanks Kim!) and also mainly because aqua/teal colors are my absolute favorite and I was doing a red kitchen in San Francisco so I have a ton of red stuff already.

It’s working out pretty cute!

NEW SECTIONAL

I’m been meaning to post about this for a while, so here we go!  The whole time living with Joe and furnishing our homes, we have always gone the super budget route.  We never buy anything new and we almost 100% of the time get something used and inexpensive off Craigslist.  Well, here comes the big splurge!

We (finally) decided to go with a sectional, we both love the MCM, or mid-century modern look and after a bunch of researching  I found Thrive Furniture.  I love their style and that they are made in America with a guarantee.

The down side is you can’t sit on it first or see it in person, but it does have a 21 day return policy.

So we took the plunge!  I decieded to go with the Taylor style and went with the Klein Azure dark blue color.  I wish I could go light, like the fun yellow or a light ivory or something, but the reality is with a three year old and also a 94 year old Father-In-Law, I really thought it best we go dark.

The swatch we received is very pretty too–It’s hard to tell from the online photo, but it has a lot of dimension to the color.  Plus, we have a lot of white and fun pop colors to brighten up the room!

HOWDY FROM “THE HIVE”!

Howdy all!

Since we have gone through so much turmoil and craziness in 2011 and things are finally settling down for us, I thought it befitting to start a fresh new blog and website to chronicle our new life in Austin, Texas!

For those of you who may not know, Joe and I met in Austin in January 2004, so it’s pretty crazy that we ended up back here. Austin is a town we love and still have good friends here.

Brixton even started school today at White Bird Montessori and said he “had fun playing with children”.

We’re really excited and happy to be back. We are settling into our new house and just absolutely loving it!  We love the neighborhood, the park and the neighbors we meet are all really friendly.

I really want to paint the front door.  Leave a comment and weigh in!
